When people talk about guard dogs, the first breeds that come to mind include the likes of German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Doberman Pinschers, and Komondors. They are big and always ready to fight for their families.
But small dogs, such as Yorkshire Terriers, can be good guard dogs, too! Want proof? Here’s the story of Bella the Yorkie who drove away a bear trespassing her family’s home.
Small but incredible
Bella was surely a fearless dog, as she went head-to-head with an animal that was much larger and stronger than her. According to Bella’s owner, she was let out into the family backyard. But seconds later, she went berserk!
Bella’s owners soon discovered that their sweet pup was running after a juvenile bear that trespassed the family’s premises. The dog even chased the bear up a tree. The owners then tried to get Bella to come them.
Once Bella was called, the dog motioned towards her owners. The bear took this opportunity to flee.
The ruckus was captured on the camera that overlooked the bird feeders in the yard. In the clip, you could see how fast of a runner Bella was. And even if the bear was already up the tree, the dog stayed on the ground and kept barking at the much bigger animal.
The Internet was fascinated
The video of the horrifying incident was shared on YouTube where it has garnered more than 60K views as of this writing.
One commenter said that Yorkies are actually reincarnated souls of honey badgers who died in battle. Another created a funny analogy; he said that if a spider could chase him up a chair, then a dog could also chase a bear up a tree. A third commenter said that the bear was lucky to have climbed up a tree. Otherwise, the dog would have torn him apart.
