There are times when the parent of an animal may not like their babies. And as per experts, reasons, why this happens, are varied. However, no matter the reason, it is important for the animal babies to get love and care. This is where a surrogate comes in.
The surrogate will be there to help the baby animal grow by being the new parent in its own sense. And in Miami, Florida, a dog has become the surrogate father to a number of baby animals at the Zoological Wildlife Foundation. This dog is a German Shepherd and his role is very important for the growth and development of the baby animals. The caretakers at the zoo are very appreciative of what the dog does.
The Tabraues, Mario and Maria, own the zoo. They had thought about how dogs have been good carers and friends to humans and other animals and so they decided to bring one in to help out.
To do this, Mario got help from a dog trainer. He asked the trainer to help him find a dog who would be able to adjust well in the zoo and could be able to interact well with the other animals there.
The entire search was not easy and it took them 18 months. They did tests on various dogs. In the end, they found a dog named Igor.
Igor was quite good at his role and he does it naturally. He has paternal instincts when it comes to the baby animals in the zoo.
Igor’s very first “baby” was a tiger cub. The two would also spend many hours playing, and Igor would look over the cub when he is with him. When they become tired, the two would just hang out and rest together. Igor became the provider of the psychological needs and emotional needs of the tiger cub.
