For a dog-loving bride and her groom, it made perfect sense to have puppies instead of flower bouquets at their wedding.

Many couples planning for their wedding take their time choosing the perfect blooms for their big day, but couple Kathryn and Brad Ziemer opted for something different—but just as lovely.

Kathryn and Brad, who are based in Minnesota, have been supporters of Secondhand Hounds for around two years before their marriage.

Secondhand Hounds is a non-profit animal rescue organization in Minnesota that rescues dogs from kill shelters in the Midwest area and takes in pets that their owners can’t take care of anymore.

Kathryn had been dreaming of puppies tumbling over each other in her wedding, and Secondhand Hounds was only too happy to make her dream come true.

According to Rachel Mairose, the founder and executive director of the Minnesota shelter, the organization is no stranger to puppy parties, so they thought it would be a great idea to have their puppies in Kathryn and Brad’s wedding ceremony.

Secondhand Hounds brought 13 cute puppies to the party—Abra, Diglett, Eevee, Kingler, Oddish, Onix, Paras, Pidgey, Poliwag, Squirtle, Tauros, Weedle, and Zubat.

What makes these puppies even more endearing is that they’re all named after Pokémon!

The precious pups stole everyone’s heart. Bridesmaids and groomsmen alike played with them, and even people who weren’t particularly fond of dogs found themselves having fun.

The bride had another reason for bringing in the puppies besides the cuteness overload factor, however.

Kathryn says she wanted to drive home the message that pet shops and breeders aren’t the only ways to get a dog. Adopting from shelters is also a great idea because there are plenty of rescued doggies who are in great need of warmth and kindness from loving families.
