When we humans share a similar characteristic with another person, we tend to get along quite well. But surprisingly, this isn’t exclusive to humans! This adorable disabled Chihuahua named Lundy created a surprising yet adorable bond with Herman, a disabled pigeon, at a special shelter in New York, melting the hearts of those who’ve read their story.
When Lundy walked into the shelter Herman was in, no one expected the pup to become friends with our feathered friend. The staff feared that if the two got too close, the bird would be left in tatters because he couldn’t fly. This was because the poor pigeon probably suffered from a virus or a brain injury.
But when staff member Sue Rogers brought the two together to see how they’d react to each other’s company, everybody breathed a sigh of relief when they just snuggled. The pup clearly knew that he had a connection to the pigeon, so he showed everyone how compassionate he could be.
Herman didn’t budge, either. He snuggled the pup right back because he understood Lundy’s conditions. While the two snuggled away, the moment seemed like the pigeon was reassuring the pup that there was someone who understood how he felt.
This perfect moment between the two was captured on photo, earning the admiration of many people online. In just two days from posting the picture, messages of support and donations for the chihuahua and the pigeon surged – collecting a sum of $6,000.
Everybody knew in their hearts that Lundy and Herman shouldn’t get separated, so when it came to adoption, most people opted to adopt them both. So far, 100 people have sent their intention of adopting the cute pair.
Unfortunately, poor Lundy isn’t strong enough for his forever family to adopt him yet. But because many people have already expressed their desire online to care for the pup and his new friend, staff members are hopeful that it won’t be long before the pup lives his days in a forever home.
