Joyce Ackerley was peacefully spending her afternoon doing her favorite hobby — pottery. She thought she was safe in her garden in Greater Manchester. She could not be more wrong.
A man knocked on Joyce’s garden gate. Thinking the stranger just wanted to ask for directions, Joyce opened the gates to him. That was when Joyce realized the intruder had other things on his mind.
It turned out Joyce opened her gate to a robber. The robber immediately grabbed Joyce’s necklace and started hitting her on the head with what looked like a broom. Joyce was 86 year old.
The old and frail woman had no shot defending herself against the robber. Thankfully, Joyce had an angel in her household. He goes by the name Axel.
Axel is an Akita and German shepherd mix. As soon as the dog saw her elderly owner being attacked, he ran to the garden to defend her. Joyce recounted that she had never seen her dog run as fast as he did that day.
Axel jumped the robber. The latter lost balance and ran away in panic. The dog kept barking while the robber tried to get away.
Axel came out of the altercation with a bloodied nose. But even with his injury, Axel still acted like the brave and loyal dog that he was. He showed Joyce his utmost devotion during that fateful day.
Joyce could not be more grateful for what Axel has done for her. She knows that she could have suffered far greater risks if Axel were not around to scare off that robber. Also, she could not be prouder of her dog.
Axel was a rescue dog. Joyce has always considered him a gentle pup. Now Joyce is aware that Axel also has a warrior in him.
But this warrior comes out only when Axel’s owner is in danger.
