Sarah Mallouk Crain opted to forego the conventional flower bouquet of bridesmaids in favor of something more meaningful to her: adorable small dogs instead for her wedding day. And it surely was a good decision!
Crain works for Pitties Love Peace, a Pennsylvania-based animal rescue group. She and her fiancé at the time, Matt Crain, used to constantly take in foster dogs in their home and care for them until the animals have found their own forever homes. They have three rescue dogs as well. As dog enthusiasts, they felt it would be a great idea to bring some puppies for adoption into their wedding ceremony.
They requested that the bridesmaids hold pups instead of the traditional bouquet of flowers for their wedding photos. The boxer-coonhound mixes were rescued at a young age and given the names Martha, Louisa, Abigail, Elizabeth, and Dolley after the First Ladies. At eight weeks old, they were the most valuable addition to the wedding entourage.
Everyone, not only the bride and groom, was overjoyed by the presence of the pups at the wedding. They also produced casual, candid, and very natural photographs, which made their photographer very delighted. All of the snuggles were also enjoyed by the wedding party.
The bride wanted to carry by a 9-week-old pit bull mix named Biggie Smalls, that was a New York City rescue dog. She stated that holding the pit bull was very important to her because that is the breed that their rescue group primarily focuses on protecting. They’ve rescued a variety of breeds, including beagles and mastiffs, but they focus on saving as many pit bulls as possible.
The bridesmaids weren’t the only ones who got to cuddle with the adorable dogs. The groomsmen didn’t want the whole celebration to end without being part of that beautiful moment.
