Marty Carriere was preparing for a busy shift at the Happy Tails Pet Resort and Spa when he noticed a nose poking through the front door at 6:30 in the morning. Marty said that he was not expecting anyone to arrive since it was still early, and customers usually arrive a few hours after store opening.
Marty recalled that he did not see any cars or anyone outside the daycare, so he decided to check what he saw. Mary was surprised to see that one of their regular customers, an adorable 5-year-old shepherd mix named Jem, was waiting outside.
Marty usually waits for owners to come inside with their dogs, but Jem came in without her owners. Jem must have heard word that her favorite place is finally back in business again because she ended up leaving the house without her parents and rushed to the daycare alone.
Marty immediately told Jem to come inside so they could hang out. He recalled that Jem immediately walked right into the store with her tail wagging and looked so ready to go and play.
Jem looked so eager to play with his fellow doggy friends at the daycare. Marty understood where Jem was coming from since she always visited the doggy daycare around three to four times a week before the quarantine started.
Marty immediately contacted Jem’s human parents to tell them that their dog is already at the daycare. Jem’s owners were shocked that their furbaby escaped, so they rushed over to the center to come and pick her up.
It turns out that Jem broke out of the yard when the visitors from the previous night failed to properly lock the gate. Jem’s humans brought her home, gave her some yummy breakfast, and then drove back to the daycare since it looked so obvious where the independent puppy wanted to spend the rest of her day.
