“The dog lady of New Delhi” is what Pratima Devi is known for. She is a rag-picker who, at age 65, is struggling with her finances. You can only equate her daily earnings to a few US dollars. This, however, does not stop her from sharing what she has. The stray dogs of New Delhi have a special place in their hearts for her. Whatever she earns, she spends on food for these beautiful creatures.
The stray dogs of India
It is common to see stray dogs in India. As a matter of fact, it is almost impossible to imagine India without them. There are a lot of sad stories we read about how these dogs are treated. It really is heartbreaking. That’s why we are grateful for wonderful people like Devi. She is just one of many who shows love and kindness to them.
A stray dog’s life is far shorter compared to dogs that live in houses. For one, the latter has a family that loves and cares for them. Stray dogs rely on food they can dig up from the garbage. When they get sick, no one is around to rush them to the veterinarian. Sometimes they also get hit by cars or are abused by humans.
Sent from heaven
It’s no wonder that stray dogs take comfort in people like Devi. To them, these people are Godsent, and they feel blessed to have found them. Devi goes beyond feeding the dogs. She also makes sure that their vaccines are updated. It is normal for Devi to put the well-being of these dogs before her own.
Devi treats the dogs like her own children. It has become her life mission to care for these dogs and make sure they stay healthy. Watch the full video here:
