Despite being a senior dog, 12-year-old Dakota still acts like a giant puppy for the majority of the time. She still loves meeting new friends and taking naps all day long. But apart from this, she is known to love one other thing: food.
Cheryl Dorchinsky, Dakota’s fur mom, shared that whenever it came to treats, the senior pup would always find a way to get more than what she was supposed to. And that was precisely what she did just recently.
That day, Cheryl’s family decided to install a dog door and wanted the senior canine to use it. After seeing the new contraption in the house, Dakota was understandably scared at first. Eventually, her family started pulling out treats to encourage her, and that was when the pup got immediately hooked and became a dog door pro in no time.
It didn’t take long for Dakota to get used to the dog door from there, and she eventually discovered that she could actually use it to her advantage. You see, every time that she went outside to go potty, she would get a treat from Cheryl upon her return to the house.
With the dog door in place, it would be easier to go in and out without the hassle of calling for her owners. One day, Dakota finally decided to put her plan in motion. She stepped outside through the dog door, sat on the porch for a couple of seconds, and went right back in to ask for her potty treat.
Cheryl fell for the trick initially, but she eventually questioned why the pup came back faster than usual. That was when the fur mom noticed through the clear dog door that Dakota wasn’t going potty at all!
She was stunned at how smart the trick was executed. But despite catching on to the clever scheme, Cheryl continued to give Dakota her potty treats. After all, who could say no to that adorable face? Look at Dakota’s hilarious trick in action here.
