In a rural area called Namhae in South Korea, residents noticed that someone or something had been stealing the food they regularly prepare for the stray cats. At first, they had no clue who or what it could be so they decided to watch closely. And to their total astonishment, they discovered that the cat food thief was a little brown dog they soon named Nureung.
Soon, a group of rescuers from Seoul learned about Nureung. They asked around to learn more about her and learned that she regularly appeared in the neighborhood and stole significant amount of food. Considering her size, they assumed she probably had a friend to feed.
The rescuers watched the dog and followed her as she ran up to the hill. They lost her during their first attempt to see where she lived, so the following day, they made sure to keep all their eyes on her. And to everyone’s disbelief, they realized she lived at an abandoned house far from people or even from the main road.
They wondered why she chose to live in such a condemned place. But when they saw four puppies came out of the torn down house, they were more astonished. They unveiled the truth that all the food she stole wasn’t for her but for her babies instead.
As the rescuers did further investigation, they discovered that a family once lived in that house. When they moved out, however, they left only took one dog with them and left Nureung behind. They tracked down the family and when they spoke with the wife, they learned that Nureung was, in fact, a stray dog.
The family’s dog, Gomdol, stayed in their backyard most of the time. When they were gone, Nureung showed up and Gomdol shared everything he had with her. They had a pretty good time but she always left so when they moved out, she had no choice but to raise her babies all on her own.
The wife agreed to check the puppies in their old home and even helped catch them. Later on, she also worked with the rescuers to capture Nureung. But while circumstances stopped her from bringing them all home, she did everything she could to help them start a new beginning.
A kind neighbor stepped forward and offered the furry family a temporary home. She said, however, that if no one adopts them, they are welcome to stay with her forever.
