According to the residents in the area, these two dogs had recently lost a member of their family — the mother — after she was hit by a speeding vehicle and that the two had since taken refuge in the yard of an empty house. But not all was lost, for someone took notice of the predicament of the two dogs, and notified the Hope For Paws organization so that they could help re-home these poor creatures. According to the people living in the area, there was a third dog — the mama dog, but she had died as the result of being hit by a car.

The poor creatures were less than thrilled when the rescuers from the Hope For Paws organization arrived to collect both of them. The pup was naturally the more curious of the two and approached the newcomers confidently, although he remained cautious for the most part. The dad, on the other hand, was less enthusiastic in his response and opted to stay behind, watching intently as things unfolded.

Fortunately, the rescuers had brought food with them, as they always do on operations like this one, and being homeless, there was no doubt that both dogs could use a generous helping of it. The pup was the first to take a bite out of the offering, which made putting the snare around his neck that much easier. The more ambivalent dad was eventually won over by the delicious smell of the meat, and he knew that he needed to eat, and soon.

They had been through rough times, but after a hot meal, a thorough shave, and a deep cleansing bath, they were ready to kick life in the butt. They named the dad and son Sylvester and Speedy, respectively.
